On Sunday, 21st February, Air Cadets from 1279 (Melton Mowbray) Squadron competed with squadrons from across South and East Midlands Wing at Ratcliffe College in a cross country competition across three and five kilometre races.

Although the weather was warm, conditions underfoot were somewhat muddy, providing something of a baptism for the new squadrons new, bright red t-shirts and the cadets clean white trainers!

Cadet Jasmine Morrow, aged 13, said “It was an interesting day with ups and down quite literally. It was easy to say that we were all just a tiny bit muddy! Our team did excellently in the races even if we didn't win any trophies. It wasn’t just about the running – I also really liked the scenery, it was very pretty with all the greenery and architecture. Overall it was an excellent day and we all supported each other!"

Cadet Kieron Parker, aged 16, commented "Well done to everyone who attended. It was so much fun, even though it was so wet to begin with, but the day got better and better by every second. The final parade made the day even better and I was surprised by the amount of cadets and staff who were there from across the Wing, it was great! I highly recommend attending this sports event again in the future, it's a great way of meeting new friends!"

Anyone who is aged 12 and in Year 8 at school or upwards and is interested in seeing the wide range of activities on offer can visit the squadron on a Tuesday or Thursday night from 7.15pm at the Cadet Centre, Asfordby Road.
