On Thursday 14th July, the Central Gliding School based at RAF Syerston held a VIP Event for 6 local Air Cadets from local squadrons to attend and talk to a VVIP guest about the role of the Central Gliding School within the Air Cadet Organisation. With the sun shining and not a cloud to be seen in the blue sky, two cadets from 1279 (Melton Mowbray) Squadron were lucky enough to be given a flight in a Vigilant Motor Glider as a part of the day's events.
Each sortie lasted around 25 minutes and the cadets were given control of the aircraft to control the pitch, roll and yaw. For both of the cadets, who wish to go onto military careers, the day offered a fantastic and unique opportunity.
Cadet Sergeant Jason Blackshaw and Cadet Daryl Green from 1279 (Melton Mowbray) Sqn commented “Its been a long wait to get gliding again but today has been amazing" and both were overwhelmed to have been a part of this experience, despite the VVIP visitor having to cancel!
This event also acted as an excellent way to promote the hard work and time everyone concerned are putting into getting the Air Cadets gliding again, and is a start to many more opportunities in the not too distant future.
